stormy weather

These last few days have reminded me what fall in DC is like - and it's not like fall in Michigan.  While my family is enjoying weeks of mid-60s with blazing sun and colorful leaves, here we get a continuation of summer's heat and humidity into October, when it changes overnight into cold, wind, and rain.  I'm still holding out for some pretty fall days, but in the meantime, I'm re-assessing my rain gear and finding it...non-existent. [Except for the cutest umbrella in the history of the world!  I've never been able to find a picture of it online, and when it finally dies I will cry.]  So here's how I'd like to combat the elements:

A raincoat in a cheery color, but not the bright yellow required by 13 years of uniforms:

[Oh, and a belted waist.  A must if I don't want to look like I put on 20 lbs. just because it's raining.  Also, that would be a really unfortunate/odd disease.]

Everyone here wears Hunter rainboots.  They're totally unobjectionable, but also just kind of...meh.  At the same time, I'd feel a little silly wearing my polka-dot J Crew boots with my work clothes.  I love these Sperry alternatives - just interesting enough, but by no means flashy (and let's be real - I'm a Sperry girl):

And finally, I'm currently sporting the perfect nail polish for this weather.  I'm sorry.  I can't believe I typed that sentence.  But it's true, and it's OPI's Metro Chic [though I can tell you, riding the hot metro with a bunch a people sopping from the rain is about as far from "chic" as you can get...]:

Beyond this, jazz music goes a long way in combatting the wind and rain.  Hopefully it clears up for this weekend!  We have some shenanigans planned...
