100

Did you ever have 100's Day in school when you were little? [I get sort of self-conscious asking questions like this, because - though I thought/think that my school was awesome - I'm pretty sure it wasn't normal.] It was in kindergarten, if I remember correctly, and the whole point was just to bring in 100 items of something. Someone always brought in 100 pennies, others went with plastic army men or markers or rubber bands. If the mom was particularly driven, the student might be sent with 100 cookies or cupcakes. I remember one kid (several years behind me, but her effect radiated) creating widespread jealousy with her impressive collection of 100 Beanie Babies. I'm sure there were tears.

My own Beanie Baby collection, though much loved, has dwindled to one, and he's not even easily recognizable as one since he's a big one:

Also, he needs a good fluff in the dryer. I never used to like to wash my stuffed animals (I thought it was inhumane), but I remember changing my mind completely after reading the Calvin and Hobbes comics where Hobbes goes in the washing machine. He always seemed so happy about, that I felt like I couldn't deprive my stuffed animals any longer.

This is a fantastic example of how my mind spirals when I realize that I'm getting married 100 days from today. 100! I simultaneously feel like I need more time to get everything done, and that I just want it to hurry up and get here so that we can get this party started. Because it's going to be a great party.

  1. We had 100 day celebrations at my school too - it was a K-8 Catholic school. I remember something about 100 balloons and popping them...

  2. Yes! Popping balloons would be much more fun than counting pennies...
