Christmas cheer

So before we got back, Will emailed the girls saying that we were bringing extra "Christmas cheer". He didn't have anything specific in mind, but just thought it would be funny to get them excited. Then we decided to bring my little Christmas tree in the back seat to MI, because it really wouldn't be fair for a Christmas tree to be alone on Christmas. So that could be the Christmas cheer! I, of course, then went over-the-top, saying they couldn't possibly guess what we were bringing, and generally raising their hopes so high that they (understandably) assumed that we had to be bringing a PUPPY. Cuss. Maybe I should have reined it in. How were they going to be happy with a little Christmas tree coming to keep our huge one company when they were expecting a puppy?!

Halfway through the drive to MI, the problem was solved. When we finally got home, we walked through the door and introduced our Christmas tree...named Puppy. [And since my family can appreciate clever problem solving, I'm happy to say that everyone has been very pleased with this Puppy.]

Also, I woke up and immediately went cross country skiing on the golf course this morning... I love Christmas break.

  1. What a funny little story. I very much enjoyed this post, Anna, and can sympathize with your urge to chauffeur your tiny tree all the way home. I wanted to do the same when I drove all the way from Atlanta for Christmas in Michigan. it made me sad to think of my poor little potted tree alone on its particular day to "shine." I decided against it after some deliberation that it might be a little over the top for a 12 hr trip....But, I thank you for your account and I'm glad, to know my desires were indeed completely normal and performed fantastically!
