The whole time we were in Kauai, Will was very focused on snorkeling. I was less enthusiastic, having had several good experiences, but also one rather scarring (literally) one as a child that involved getting swept up onto the shallow part of a huge coral reef in Jamaica, and being stuck there as the changing currents scraped and slammed my legs against it repeatedly. Quite frankly, I still get a bit skittish. Also, I'm a wimp. But one of the places I did have a good experience was Kauai, and I mentioned to Will that besides seeing a baby shark last time, we also saw a sea turtle. Oh boy. His eyes instantly became disproportionately huge - much like this:
That's right, he was becoming the thing he loved. It was very special.
"Anna, we have to see one."
"I can't promise that we will."
"But you saw one!"
"I saw one at this beach three years ago."
"We have to. They're good luck!"
"Ok, but just saying that doesn't mean we'll see one..."
"We have to! If we do, it'll be good luck for our whole marriage!"
This is where I ended the conversation, before he pinned the success of any other major things on the tiny chance of us seeing a sea turtle. I didn't even know if it was the right time of year! Needless to say, my hopes were very low, and his could not be higher.
And of course, as soon as we slipped on our gear and got in the water, we saw a beautiful sea turtle. The turtle was serene, I was flabbergasted, and Will was telegraphing "I told you so" as well as one could with a snorkel mask covering one's face. But to his credit, the first thing he said when we bobbed up for air was: "Our marriage is going to be awesome!" And I have a hard time disagreeing with that.

LOVE!
