Registering is something that's been very fun, but also kind of odd. I'm supposed to ask for presents, on top of getting a whole day in honor of marrying my best friend? Umm...ok. I will. But it feels weird, and I might feel a little guilty about it for awhile. Then I'll probably snap out of that, because it will be fun to have a house of things from people I love. Which reminds me that...we still need to find a house.
Anyway, for those of you who have already gone through this [or those who have bought a lot of gifts for other people and know exactly what they'd like to receive themselves], do you have any suggestions besides the staples? Our registry is already dwindling (and invites haven't even gone out! Über-generous friends.). So if there's anything you realize in hindsight that you need, or something fun you wish you had, or something fantastic you're waiting to register for yourself (and wouldn't mind sharing), I'd love to hear suggestions! We're registered at Pottery Barn, but also Amazon because:
1) Will is obsessed.
2) Free shipping on most things!
3) You can get ANYTHING there.
So hit me with your collective wisdom and good taste!
Might as well register for baby stuff now.
ReplyDeleteIt's freaking expensive.
But in all seriousness, register for decorative items that you would like that you wouldn't actually splurge on yourself. People like to think they're buying you things that aren't strictly utilitarian. (Think: coffee-table-like expensive books?)
Some things you should stay away from: when we were registering, Eric tried long and hard to convince me that registering at JCrew was acceptable. He really, really likes presents.
We registered for all the basics and some nice things that aren't necessary, like pretty serving platters and such. It seemed like a lot of people wanted to buy us those nice, pretty things because it makes a good gift, presentation-wise. It's good to get all the random small things on there, too, like spatulas and such, because sometimes people will buy one small thing in addition to a bigger gift. We did our sheets, towels, all that stuff. I also always said yes to the "people can buy gift cards" option. We used those to buy nice cookware at Macy's.
ReplyDeleteawesome baking pans! i didn't register for things like a springform pan, bundt pan, etc. but just got them for my birthday. some baking things you can do without, but how do you make a bundt cake without a bundt pan!? oh, and extra sheets, decorative pillows for your house, and picture frames! i love pottery barn frames, and after you get married, you're going to want to frame all those lovely pictures. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why I love blogs :). You guys are the best! Keep the suggestions coming!
ReplyDeleteI suggested in an fb comment. A drill for Will tohang pics...everybody needs a drill. I love my giant stainless steel stockpot (I mean giant) for huge batches of soups/stews/corn/crab. Plus you can freeze the leftovers. Maybe a bbq??? Maybe a cool Bose wireless stereo thingy??? I LOVE my electric griddle cuz you can cook up pancakes/french toast quicly ans sit down and eat together. Definitly baking goods were a good suggestion. I have mixing bowls that ate measuring bowls too and they hae pour spouts for batter. A waffle iron...mickey mouse is good for wehn kids come along. Oh and EXTRA of you dishes and glasses because it stinks when they discontinue your pattern and you have suddenly broken some peices. did you ref=gister for a nice bbq set??? Just thinking of some things I have an love. I hope you had a fabulous day and I was wishing all day we could e there!!! Hugs Aunt D~
