3 cheers for 3 day weekends!

I can't be the only one thinking that this whole 3 day weekend thing is BRILLIANT, right? I mean, I was super productive last week, because I didn't want anything hanging over my head over the weekend. I did so many fun things this weekend, and still had a lazy day at the end so that I feel rested going back to work. And since it's only a 4 day work week, I'm going to have to be really productive again, but then the weekend will be here so soon! Ok, I'm not expressing this coherently [possible downside of long weekends? Nah...], but please someone gather these thoughts and any other persuasive arguments, and present them to the powers that decide such things. Danke.

Ok but seriously, I am pretty pumped about how my New Year's resolutions are going so far. Granted, we're not even three weeks into 2011....but normally I've jumped ship already. But I've been working out fairly regularly, and feeling great. Cooking...gahh I let that one slip this weekend - but that actually frustrates me, which means that I've made huge strides from "forget the kitchen...let's eat Trader Joe's orange chicken until we burst!". Not that I'll ever forsake TJ's orange chicken. Never. But the adventuring....total success. This weekend we ventured to new parts of DC, tried new restaurants, new bars, walked around Capitol Hill on a beautiful, cold winter day, and went to a concert at the Kennedy Center [my first trip there]. It was great! Granted, I would never have had the mental stamina to undertake so much without the promise of this lazy Monday at the end, but I'm confident that I can keep up at least some adventuring on the weekends.

[One concert hall in the Kennedy Center...much prettier than the exterior, which looks scary and rather Soviet.]

I think another reason I'm so enamored of this long weekend is that I've never been able to enjoy it before. I went to a private school K-12, and then a college that doesn't accept any federal money (we're so cool), so we never recognized federal holidays. Total perk of the real world! Of course, I don't get snow days anymore either...so the jury's still out on whether growing up is actually worth it...
