resolutions: 2012 edition

It's that time of year again!  Here's last year's list, just in case you want to take a gander.  And though putting "get married" might have been a bit presumptuous, in retrospect, it definitely tops any list.  But though Will and I have discussed doing it again, mostly at the request of our party-loving friends, I think we can promise not to get married again in 2012.  So here's the nuptial-free list:

1. Cook strategically.  Last year's cooking resolution was a success, since I not only enjoy cooking (finally), but also cooked much more.  It became a hobby, a relaxation, and a way to make Will happy.  This year I want to cook more strategically - both in terms of planning meals out ahead of time [necessary since we will no longer have a Whole Foods as our basement...devastation], and cooking greater quantities so that we can take home-cooked meals to work and cut our budget down in that regard*.

[*Federal government, feel free to take notes. I'm sure most problems could be fixed by packing your own lunches.]

2. Get back on the track.  Last year's fitness resolution was also a success, in that I stopped lifting, and started doing cardio.  That means I can no longer do this:

...but that's probably ok.  The number of times I've needed to throw a hammer long distances post-college is surprisingly small.  Who'd have thought!

Also, I have a built-in workout partner now in Will.  And since we will quite likely not have a gym after we move, running will basically be our only option.  But since I've only ever really run to race, I need a goal, so we're going to shoot for the Marine Corps 10K this year [pun totally intended].  And for those who think a 10K is short, you're absolutely correct.  But please remember that I've been a sprinter for my whole life, and if I'm not running short distances very quickly, I'm probably complaining.

3. Work hard, play hard, sleep hard(est).  I have a challenging job which could (and has) taken up my nights and weekends.  I want to make sure this year that I work as efficiently as possible during the workday, and minimize the amount that it spills over into my time with husband, family, and friends.  We also want to be smart about doing little weekend adventures and visiting friends, while balancing that with many upcoming weddings (again, more strategy involved).  And the last one might seem funny, but I've finally come to terms with the fact that I need more sleep than I got in college, and neither of the first two goals can happen without a significant boost in the third.  And buying a new bed will make this a very fun goal to accomplish.

4. Get my long hair back.  This one might seem...umm...not especially challenging, since it mostly consists of me just waiting.  But it also requires me to be patient, and not give in to my desire to have very frequent haircuts, and not give up when I'm hot during the summer and just chop it all off again.  My wonderful hairdresser, Hector, and I will need to scale back our co-dependent relationship, and that makes everyone sad.  But it's for the best.  I'm ready to have Blake Lively hair again.

5. AMDG.  Same explanation as last year.  This is the important one, friends.

What are yours?  You'll notice that there's no gymnastic feat on the 2012 edition...feel free to suggest one.  There's a pretty hilarious story to come about last year's...
