Pluuuuuus she's picked up some very toddler-like habits. Lovely.
One year! One year of cheeky grins, silly tricks, daring feats, and surprising sweetness. She finished her year at 22 lbs, 11 oz, and 31 inches tall. (It makes me laugh to remember that we all thought she was so big at 8 lbs.) She's becoming more independent, and reveling in it (or despairing when not allowed to act on it). She's not walking solo yet, but basically runs while holding your fingers and feels very nonchalant about standing on her own, which means she's starting to get bumps and bruises more regularly. She's also made some funny regressions: she used to give normal hugs and kisses, but now if you solicit them you'll get her face affectionately pushed against your shoulder for a hug (no arms involved), and her forehead offered to you for you to kiss. The trend is a bit one-sided.
It's remarkable to think of all that her body and mind have accomplished this year. Rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, walking, climbing, swimming, talking, joking, thinking, dreaming...no wonder she sometimes seemed overwhelmed! We all were. But we made it; and she changed our bodies and minds, too. Our arms and hips automatically sway the right way to comfort her, we're stronger on our left sides because that's where we hold her, and our backs are generally more sore at the end of the day. We're learning a new language (and trying to teach her our own), and finding beauty and joy in the smallest, most unexpected things.
We have you to thank for all of that, Mollie-girl. Thank you for the best year of our lives.
Quick, quick! I somehow managed to get sentimental, despite all the disclaimers - get us back on track, Mollie!
There we go.
