WORST:
Keira Knightley is expecting (congratulations!), which makes me think that she used to just wear whatever made her look skinniest, and now she's adrift. Also maybe she's announcing the gender by adorning herself with butterflies? Note: the one on her hand is not Clip Art that I added. She made that decision.
Rosamund Pike just had a baby (also congratulations!), which makes me angry at whoever thought this dress was appropriate. No mom wants to look as droopy as you're feeling a few weeks postpartum. Her face is gorgeous though.
Robin Wright went back in time to The Princess Bride set and raided Westley's closet. There can be no other explanation.
[And the absolute worst is a tie between Lana Del Rey and Lena Dunham, but I didn't want to bring you down by posting those pictures, so you have to google them if you want to see the apex of ugly.
BETTER:
I loved this color and fit for Amy Adams, but the matchy bridesmaid shoes are sad.
Lupita Nyong'o is just the coolest. I wish the 3-D top part had been smaller, though...maybe ending right under her bust? Her arms camouflage it in this picture, but it was so fluffy and long that it made her look top-heavy.
Anna Kendrick usually ends up on my bad list, so this seems especially pretty. Too long though - needed to be hemmed!
Something about Ellie Kemper's hair or makeup is throwing me off (I honestly can't tell what it is), but I really liked this dress.
BEST:
I seriously can't think of anyone who could have pulled this off better than Emma Stone. I first thought that the big bow was too weird, but then decided this wouldn't have qualified as red-carpet-appropriate without it.
I'm not generally a fan of yellow, but I kept coming back to Naomi Watts last night. She looked fantastically chic (though - and I can only say this because she probably has a spare million to correct it - the lipstick seems to be making her teeth look yellow too).
Quvenzhane Wallis was Kiernan Shipka-level of perfection last night. Adorable, chic, and perfect for her age and the occasion. What a cutie!
OKAY I LIED THIS WAS THE ACTUAL BEST:
My insane love of Sherlock aside (can't put it aside, it permeates all things), Benedict Cumberbatch's fiancee, Sophie Hunter, was my favorite of the night. The pattern, the matching of the red to the carpet, her pretty English-rose makeup, and her date were all lovely. Welcome, Mrs. Holmes!
