28!

This was a banner weekend for food: lamb shank and espresso creme brûlée with the girls, strawberry pancakes, seafood chowder in Annapolis with Grandma, new favorite meatball recipe, barbecue-chicken nachos for the Super Bowl...but I think Will's birthday cake takes the cake (haha) for me.


When I texted Chef Gracie: "best chocolate cake recipe, por favor?" and she responded with this one within 2 minutes, I felt pretty confident. And guys, I really think it is. The only problem is that the frosting gets even better after being in the fridge, so there's no hope of leftovers becoming unappealing. Apropos of nothing, I think it's time to start working out again.

Of course, all of this cake talk is just a big wind-up to a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the most wonderful guy I know. I'm grateful for you every time you make better waffles than I do, take Darcy on long, early morning walks, never say "no" to me buying a new book...and everything else in between. Happy 28th, handsome!
