a 10-year search

I've mentioned before my undying love of Katie: An Impertinent Fairy Tale. It's sentences stick with me...even the unimportant ones. Take this paragraph:

"Dawn was off somewhere with the moonset or the sunrise, Clovelly was polishing her long rose-pale fingernails on a napkin and humming lightly, and Mama was filling Mr. Hermitage's cup so full of coffee that there would be no room for sugar. She had several little economies of this kind, all of them founded on the theory that, if one were truly thrifty in small ways, one could make up for it in large ways, such as extravagance."

I mean, every phrase is fantastic. To get to the point of this post, though: since high school I've loved the image of Clovelly's naturally pink, shiny nails. [What can I say, my love of nail polish runs deep.] I've tried an embarrassing number of polishes over the years to attain this effect, because my own nails just don't cut it.

And then I read this post. And mulled it over. And thought it was too expensive. And wondered, "But what if that's the one?" And had a day with a super cranky baby and new-mom emotions and the wonders of online shopping and the wise words of Mama in my head (I'll be thrifty in other ways so I can be extravagant now!)

And this stuff is perfection.

It makes my nails pinker and the tips whiter, it adds a subtle shine, and it doesn't chip. Ever. It wears off in a nice, under-the-radar way...the difference between an Irish goodbye and slamming the door on the way out in my opinion.

Ok I've clearly gotten a little carried away. But I've worn this almost exclusively for months now, it makes me very happy, and I just wanted to share the secret to Clovelly nails!
