Westport-best-port

A ten-hour drive with an energetic and vocal baby isn't the most pleasant way to travel. But when this is at the other end of the journey, it's well worth it:

We had the most wonderful week in Westport this year. Beyond perfect weather (mid 70s and sunny every single day), embarrassingly good food (swordfish, scallops, corn on the cob), and the best company (otherwise known as Mollie's Entourage):

All of those things are good in of and themselves. But in addition to them, permeating everything in that wonderful town is a feeling of peace. The pace of every day is slower, the conversation is quieter (except for certain after-dinner Rummikub games that get out of hand), and there's a feeling of constancy that comes from the house, the neighbors, and the river. Being there is like taking a deep breath - the kind that opens your chest, relaxes your shoulders, and readies you for whatever's next. I'm so grateful we have a place like that in our lives.
