ramblings - 9.18.13

- I've never had a dog who watches tv before, and I find it completely hilarious. She won't sit and watch it for hours (like my grandparents' dog who, if I remember correctly, was especially fond of home decorating shows?), but when she's bored she sits very upright, moving her head from side to side following the action.

- One of the shows we've been watching is The Million Second Quiz...all of the rules are sort of confusing at first, but I have nothing but time on my hands and now I'm obsessed. And there's a corresponding app that you can play 24/7. Not that I would.

- We found a new apartment! More on that later, but for now it means that I'm back to scheming and fretting and guessing about paint colors. Hopefully we avoid the fiasco that was The Great Grey Search...crossing every finger.

- I've been reading The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History. Is that a killer title, or what? Honestly, the writing sort of makes me wish someone else had gotten hold of the story first (it's a little disorganized and sometimes overwritten), but the facts are so captivating that it's still worth reading. Plus it's 700-something pages, and I love me a long book. That said, if my less-than-gushing review scares you off, it looks like you'll have a very good alternative:

As a Buzzfeed review says: "This war dramedy tells the true story of a group of art historians and museum curators who scour Europe during the end of WWII to rescue priceless works of art before the Nazis destroy them. It should win some kind of award for getting George Clooney, John Goodman, Matt Damon, and Bill Murray in the same movie, wearing Army uniforms, and cracking jokes."
