food hug

First of all, I can't say "thank you" enough for all the love and prayers we've received. This blog has proved a blessing in ways I never expected, and for that I'm incredibly grateful. I'm also a bit unsure about how to proceed; it doesn't feel right to jump back into silly things like nail polish colors, but we're finding that going about our "normal" lives as much as possible definitely helps. Excuse me if this results in some disconnect here. I can guarantee both lists of pretties from the new fall fashions, and honest assessments about how our life has changed - I can't really predict when I'll want to talk about what.

People ask if we're doing ok. The short answer is: sometimes. And more of the time than we used to be (grammatically questionable sentence fragment acknowledgment). This is thanks to friends checking in, cooking dinners, sending lovely notes, and acquaintances not freaking out when I hug them instead of shaking their hands like a professional. Also, on a very basic physical level, thanks to these cookies.

I don't know why they're so good...something about the saltiness? I follow this recipe pretty closely...maybe adding a little more salt (the coarser the better) and more vanilla...and as much chocolate as necessary. Also, 15-16 minutes seems to be perfect - the 17-18 suggested was too close to them burning for any of our comfort. I've made two batches in the last week and a half, and after we brought some back to Hillsdale my family made more for themselves.

Make them. Eat them. Give people hugs (or cookies).
