There's something about fall that makes you fall in love with the earth. Even on the east coast, heels are tossed aside for moccasins, boots...things that you can tramp through a field in. There's something in the weather that makes you think becoming a cowboy is a valid option. You want to poke around the dirt to find the perfect pumpkin...rub an apple on your jeans to "clean" it...fill your house with colorful leaves to try to bring the outside in. The earth is good. It's dirty, and so teeming with life it shows how wild it really is (I think it seems to hide it better in the spring).
For me, the musical equivalent of fall is Mumford and Sons. Their new album came out this week (as you may have heard), and it's sweet. But if you're a visual person like me, this is even sweeter:
I mean, not only do you get a description of how filthy these guys are in the trailer (just so everyone's on the same page, since we can't smell them), you see the wild energy they pour into their music from California to New Orleans. Watch the whole movie...it convinced me to be a cowboy this fall.
I could not agree more. I spent all afternoon fall cleaning to Mumford and Sons.
ReplyDeleteAnd being a cowboy should always be a valid option. Always.

I fell in love with them in Greece where I spent the long bus rides trying not to drool on Alice. Naturally I wasn't pristine after all those archaeological visits...so yes, cowboys and cleaning are wonderful associations :)
