summer pixie

The first (of many) lessons in letting the girls make their own style choices: Mollie's hair had gotten long enough for ponytails and pigtails, which I loved and she hated. She looked so cute with little hairdos, but getting them done required a mix of threats and bribes that didn't make anyone happy. (Bows are the only acceptable accessory in her mind, and aren't able to tame her shaggy 'do on their own.) So after the first really hot day of the year, seeing the summer stretch before me in innumerable altercations about ponytails, I asked Mollie if she wanted really short hair. "YES," without a second's hesitation. So after-dinner bath turned into a spa, and an episode of Little Einsteins bought me the time to do some layers. We laughed and splashed and Liv supervised from her swing. Mollie says that it makes her look "so pretty," and I have to admit that it suits my mischievous little pixie.
