things you shouldn't ask your husband to do

1. Be your sister/cousin/best friend when it comes to changing your appearance.

For example, just say that you decide on a whim that you'd really like a bob. At least you think you do...better check with your sisters/cousins/best friends to make sure. Group text the idea using a plethora of question marks and emojis. Receive unanimous and enthusiastic support. Get excited. Solicit inspiration. Phone immediately buzzes with pictures from their Pinterest boards. Bless them. Bring up Husband's possible reaction. Worries waved aside by cheerleaders. Strengthen resolve. Book appointment. What's the soonest you have? This afternoon! Perfect. Everyone's basically getting this haircut together.

Husband comes home and is apprised of the plan. How short? Get nervous. Downplay the change. Think better of it, give the real number of inches but bury them in question marks. Resent lack of blind enthusiasm. Flounce out the door.

Stop flouncing once you hit the sidewalk. Stumble over feet while texting sisters/cousins/best friends for willpower. Open the salon door and walk in.

Forty minutes later, open the salon door and walk out. Feeling good. Show off to Husband. That's short! Cut him off, assume he hates it, and immediately drown in self-consciousness.

Refuse to text picture to cheerleaders for while. Receive assurances of haircut's awesomeness before they even see it. Relent and send some pictures. Phone buzzes with compliments and heart-eye emojis galore. Mom chimes in - wasn't even included on the text but saw the picture from your sister and has to personally assure her daughter that she hasn't made a huge mistake. Bless them all. Start making plans for them to live next door.

Wake up the next morning and smile when you look in the mirror. Smile fades as Husband neglects to address all-important hair issue immediately upon waking. Give up and just decide to care what sisters/cousins/best friends think. Smile and give hair a flip.

Husband mentions that he likes the haircut a day later. Bless him, but your girls already told you that.
